Web 2.0 Applications

Glogster.

Glogster was a whole new experience for me. I did not know there was such a thing out there. But as I am already used to working with the promethean board and promethean planet as a resource at my campus, it was a small jump to make. I like that glogster is not only for teachers but also for students. Students can make posters, audio and video presentations, and general presentation. They can add text, data, websites, video and audio as well as graphics and images. It took some time to learn all the controls, but it is a valuable tool to know how to use.

Delicious!!

Wow! This website is amazing. I have loved getting an account on delicious.com and getting to add things to an online bookmarking website. It is like pintrest but for a wider variety of websites and resources. This is ver handy since you are always running into things that are useful and you want to save them somewhere, but don't know where. This is easy, fast, and you can add stuff at home and access it anywhere you have internet access.

Google Docs.

Google docs is a wonderful way to share and work on documents. You can share them with anyone, access them any time, open them anywhere, and print them anywhere.  It is an easy and helpful tool to use. Google docs is a must add to your teaching resources.

Here is an example of a google doc I made and published:

RSS feeds, Feedly and a teachers' personal learning network:

I assume I am not the only one who has this problem: I get all excited about something that I am doing or making or following online. I sign up for the website and in about a month I have completely forgotten about it, other things come up and life goes on. But there are some websites and some blogs which are very good and helpful for your goals or needs, in my case my profession as a teacher. I want to keep in touch with certain bloggers and see when they add something new. You want to read the articles but you don't want to always have to go search the entire world wide web to find them again. This is where your RSS feed comes in. It is like a personalized newspaper, and you choose which articles will be in the paper every day. You can read what you like, add and delete what you like in an easy, interactive forum.

I have really liked Feedly in building my own personal learning network. It consists of people and things I keep up with, read and study. It is like my own personal development course which I design and implement on myself when I have time to do so. This is a great tool and every teacher int he beginning years should start a personal learning network to keep up with current news and issues which are pertinent to the teaching profession to read up on and be familiar with.  This is all part of growing as a teacher and being the best you can be at what you do.

WIKI.

Wiki is like your online classroom. You can add assignments, facts, text, tests, and start an online discussion. There is just so much this website is useful for and can easily help you do. This website is great! It is easy and minimalistic to look at.

I created a wiki page and started a discussion about the kindergarten classroom and posted a useful list of readiness skills kindergardeners should possess before coming to class on that first day.

Here is a link to my wiki:

Voki.

I made an account on Voki. It is an online virtual classroom. You can choose an avatar which becomes like a virtual teacher. You can easily upload text or even record text in real time and the avatar will repeat it so students can be logged on and listen to lessons, books, facts and more. Great for keeping in touch with students over breaks and snow days!

Animoto:

Animoto is another wonderful site to check out. At this point please don't get overwhelmed. This website is very easy and user friendly. You can pick a beautiful theme and songs and make a little video with text and pictures. It is like a video slideshow. I loved using it because it was so easy and user friendly. It does get easier once you get into these websites and play around on them you will notice a lot of similarities. You'll get the hang of it, I promise!
